Upon arrival I will sit down with you to assess your needs during my time there. Observing you and your baby in your home environment is invaluable as it allows me to share tips that may be helpful and practical for your family. Please know that I fully respect and support your decisions as parents.
My role will vary each day with your unique needs, but there are core elements that are nearly always present:

FAQs

I want to make your home a safe haven so you can enjoy special moments with your sweet little one while I take care of all the details!

WHAT IS A POSTPARTUM DOULA?

The literal translation of the word doula is “servant.” As your doula, I would provide emotional and physical postpartum support to enhance your bonding experience as you arrive home with your baby. As a Postpartum Doula, I am a knowledgeable professional who will assist your family during the critical period immediately after the birth of your baby(s). I “mother the mother” and offer physical, emotional, informational support, as well practical help to your family. As a postpartum doula I can support your family during the day or evening. I am there to nurture your family, and provide comfort and much needed rest.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY POSTPARTUM DOULA DURING THE DAY?

During your interview with your Postpartum Doula you will discuss specifics about your expectations. I find that my role in the first months, often referred to as the “fourth trimester” is one of support, where necessary, in your home. While I focus on your needs physically and emotionally, I am also there to care for your baby. My role can be as simple as holding your little one while you shower or take a much needed nap. I can care for your baby while you spend some time with your other children. I can prepare a light meal and healthy snacks, as well as assist with the laundry that is piling up!

WHY HIRE A POSTPARTUM DOULA?

The transition of welcoming a new baby(s) into your family can be both physically and mentally draining, especially due to sleep deprivation and uncertainty about the care of your newborn. Therefore, there are many advantages to hiring a postpartum doula including: Increased breastfeeding success Decreased chance of postpartum depression Decreased infant and maternal health complications due to informed care Decreased maternal exhaustion, frustration, and apprehension Increased and earlier bonding with newborn Happier baby due to a greater understanding of your infant’s emotional and physical needs and behavior.

CAN YOU ACCOMPANY ME AND MY BABY TO APPOINTMENTS?

Yes, a resounding yes. In those early weeks, it is always a bonus to have an extra set of hands as you venture out of the house. Shopping, doctor’s appointments, a drive to the nearest park for a stroll are all options.

HOW LONG CAN WE KEEP YOU?

There are no rules or formulas for the amount time you may want some help. My goal is to support you in every way possible so we can establish a daily routine that works for you, your baby and your family. My goal is to provide the right level of support and encouragement without getting in the way of your personal bonding experience with your baby and family.

WILL THE DOULA RESPECT OUR WISHES IN CARING FOR THE BABY?

My role is to provide emotional and physical support as you and your family and new baby settle into a routine. This is your baby and your home environment and I want to make it a safe place, a haven for you. I can provide with information and ideas that my other clients have found useful. You can expect nonjudgmental support and compassion from me.
